Since kids, we are taught in schools and outside of it, through articles or blog posts, that if we want a healthy living, we must follow the food pyramid (nutrition) as well as doing lots of sports and thinking positive. At first sight, there is nothing wrong with this plan, yet if we think a little bit deeper as an adult, we will realize that, we actually never were taught how to stick to positive thoughts in certain crisis. When we feel down, we look for something easy to improve our bad mood, thus we turn to alcohol or even worse technology abuse. Of course, that leading a healthy routine is not that easy as it sounds, you must constantly make physical and mental effort, to achieve a result. However, I have come to realize over the years, that there are some tricks in order to have positive vibes or at least lead a healthier everyday living and for this reason I would like to share with you today these ideas.
1# Distinguish manipulation from compassion
One of the many causes of our negative thoughts, that come from outside, are people who either are a manipulative nature or were born in an unfortunate environment. For example, some people will become your friends in order to have a material profit from you. This friends will spend lots of time with you and even make you believe that they are a good person with great intentions in life. They will understand what are your weakest points, so they can use it later as a weapon against you. This type of situation is called manipulation and today many people like to behave in a pity way in front of others, in order for them to benefit goods without making any effort. On the other hand, what I understood about a compassionate person, is the fact, that they will never show signs to you and in public about their tough life. On the contrary, they will work hard towards their goals and be much more generous with others.
2# Less narcissistic and more empathetic
Everybody likes to be the central of attention, yet we mustn’t confuse healthy narcissism with the harmful one. The healthy one is part of a normal human functioning and it represents self-love or confidence, that is based on real life achievements. On the other hand, we have the unhealthy narcissistic person who needs excessive admiration and appreciation from others without showing any sign of empathy back. This people like to find always useless excuses, in order to be innocent in the eyes of their peers. Blaming the appearance of modern technology or leading small-talks has become an issue for youths, who start entering in a great state of negativism or depression. We should understand that every person needs emotional support. Only AI robots can switch their feelings from negative to positive in an instant moment, but we humans have something more powerful than them: reasoning. So, in order to think positive thoughts, you must first let go of excessive arrogance and show more concern for others too.
3# Make reading a priority
According to science reading makes you feel happier with yourself and your life. Readers reported a higher level of self-esteem and a greater ability to cope with social issues and challenges. While some of us still believe that scrolling down articles on internet is enough to improve our mood, I can bet that it isn’t. Daily, we encounter new information on the internet, and willingly or unwillingly we fall in its trap, that causes us hours of distraction. Of course, not every post on the internet is fake, there is also useful information as well, but the point is, we should sometimes take a break from it and feel free to read a book whether it’s virtual or not. In this form you will not only protect your memory, but also you will start focusing more on improving oneself rather envying your social media friends.
It is said that, Health, is a state of complete harmony of the body, mind and spirit. While it can feel easier to deal with the maintenance of our body, by following healthy diet plans and doing exercises, there can be a stumble block between our mind and soul. Some negative emotions can influence our soul and mind in a few seconds. So, in order to have a balance, between the 3 components, we must first determine the cause of our breakdown and eliminate as soon as possible toxic people/ habits. In this way, working upon ourselves will be much easier and likewise negative vibes will be replaced by positive ones.
