🏝CASE FILE: THE ISLAND MYSTERY

“Pack your bags, we’re going on a vacation!”, or at least so thought Jared and his wife.

Some days ago he bought a $1.4 billion land in the Balkans and wanted to create a luxury resort. The island was notorious for its old abandoned communist-era military base. It had been left untouched for many years and the idea of creating something out of nowhere for Jared was a playground and not such a bad idea after all. Everything was going well, until all of a sudden construction stopped overnight. No clear reason was given. People living nearby started talking about land use and how ineffective the investment was. Enviromentalists were concerned about the wildlife, while others were fed up with the (dictatorship) regime. Gen Z, became more and more active in these discussions, while starting a week of protests, not because of the resort or the nature misuse, but because of the whole political regime, who didn’t provide for its people or country. The island has turqoise water and the Lagoon small saltwater lakes.

During a visit, investigators saw groups of tall pink birds standing in the water. They stayed very still and moved slowly across the surface. Even with plans for development, the island stayed unchanged. In local conversations and later in international press, a name of a bird species kept appearing:
